What does sugar paste hair removal involve?

Smooth and beautiful body – every woman dreams about it. But how to depilate it? There are many ways, but recently more and more women decide to use sugar paste. What are the pros and cons of this method?

Interestingly, sugar paste epilation has been known for centuries, it is one of the oldest methods to achieve a perfectly smooth body. It turns out that it was already used in the Middle East for this very purpose several hundred years ago. Today, this method is gaining more and more followers all over the world.

Sugar paste for hair removal – what is it?

Sugar paste, as the name suggests, is a paste made of sugar with various additives, most often lemon juice or herbs to soothe irritation. It used to be called halaweh in the Middle East, where only caramel or melted sugar was used. Hair removal with this paste is relatively painless for several weeks and can be used even by people with delicate skin prone to irritation, with varicose veins or burst capillaries

Sugar paste epilation – pros and cons

Sugar paste epilation has many advantages. First of all, it does not irritate the skin like popular hair removal with wax patches. The paste only sticks to the hair, but it does not stick to the skin, so the whole procedure is also much less painful. Besides, it is also performed cold, so there is no risk of burning. On the plus side, the residue is very easy to wash off, just use lukewarm water, no need to rub the skin, which exposes it to additional irritation. Any redness, should it appear, usually disappears the same day. Sugar paste depilation allows you to get rid of hair for 2-3 weeks

Every procedure has its disadvantages as well, so hair removal with sugar paste is not ideal. First of all, it’s not that easy to use this method at home – you need to calculate the right proportions, and a few small mistakes can make the whole paste to be thrown away. Another downside is that this epilation is quite time-consuming, especially for calves and forearms. Also, the lemon that is in the paste can lighten the skin, and this can be unacceptable for many women, especially in the summer when they care about their tan

How to make sugar paste? Recipe

There are several recipes for sugar paste, but the basic one contains 3 ingredients in the following proportions:

  • 1/4 cup water;
  • 2 cups of sugar;
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Boil water with lemon juice and gradually add sugar. It is important to stir constantly until the mixture begins to darken – it should resemble caramel. On average, cooking should take about 20 minutes. If it solidifies quickly after removing a bit from the pot, it means it is ready. Set the pot aside for a few minutes and pour the pulp into a jar. Ready!

You can later use it in two ways – cold or hot. It is worth knowing that the first method is more efficient as even one spoon of the paste is often enough to epilate a leg. Put it on your hands, warm them slightly (you can also do it in a water bath) until the paste has the consistency of plasticine. Then apply a thin layer under the hair. A moment later just tear the paste off with a vigorous movement in the direction of hair growth. Hot waxing is very similar to waxing. Heat the paste until it is liquid (be careful not to let it get too hot because you can get burned). Apply the paste on the skin, use a wooden stick or a spatula, put a fabric (fiseline or cotton) on it and after a while pull it off with a quick movement

The first time sugar paste epilation should be done in a beauty salon, or you can use someone experienced in doing this procedure.
